My life feels like a crazy dream.
In just a few short months I’ll be off to New Zealand for an
entire semester. New Zealand is not only English-speaking and one of the safest
countries in the world, but also insanely beautiful. I’m talking
pick-your-jaw-up-off-the- floor-and-stop-drooling beautiful. Need proof? Check out the scenery.
To say that I’m excited to spend several months in this amazing country would be an understatement. I chose Victoria University in Wellington for a few reasons:

1. Wellington is the capital of New Zealand
Most people think Auckland is New Zealand’s capital, and
those people are wrong (guilty). While Wellington is smaller than
Auckland, it’s a cultural hot spot within New Zealand and houses the
government building, museums, parks, and a gorgeous view of the waterfront.
2. Victoria has a relatively small student
population
My current university (Purdue) has nearly 40,000 students
compared to Wellington’s 18,000. I’m already going
to be in a brand new country so I figured a smaller campus would make the
adjustment a little easier (and maybe prevent me from being lost for the first
month).
3. Victoria offers great courses
My major is public relations with minors in global studies
and Spanish and Victoria is a more humanities focused university. I’ll be able
to take classes that fit within my plan of study while learning about the
history of the pacific and its heritage (the nerd in me is super excited).

I’m expecting this experience to change my life and not just
because I get to listen to people with dreamy accents 24/7. I know that it’s
going not going to be sunshine and rainbows the entire time, but that’s part of
what makes it exciting. I know that I’ll meet great people and visit beautiful
places, but not knowing exactly what’s going to happen is part of the fun. New
Zealand, here I come!
